The brainchild of musical chameleon Tobias Sammet, Avantasia is a project that has earned lavish praise across the globe and that submerges the listener in a captivating fantasy world.
Edguy vocalist Sammet created Avantasia so he could write rock operas, inviting a slew of famous guest vocalists (and musicians) depending on what the composition demands. Composing a coherent catalogue is extremely difficult in such circumstances but meanwhile Avantasia’s discography has grown to eight albums. The symphonic power metal project was originally created in 2000 for the sole purpose of releasing ‘The Metal Opera’ but was revitalised in 2006, with frequent new releases and world tours to this day. The impressive new long-player ‘Moonglow’ dropped early this year with contributions by Avantasia first timers Mille Petrozza (Kreator), Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) and Candice Night (Blackmore’s Night). We are proud to announce that both Petrozza and Kürsch will be joining Avantasia to add lustre to this amazing production, which can only be staged outdoors. But there’s much more: Michael Kiske (Pumpkins United, Unisonic), Bob Catley (Magnum), Ronnie Atkins (Pretty Maids) and Geoff Tate (Queensrÿche) will also put their best foot forward to help Sammet and his excellent band give the headlining performance of a lifetime on Sunday. A ravishing and flamboyant spectacle to close out Alcatraz 2019 in style!
