Combine post-black metal with shoegaze and the hybrid result is blackgaze, a genre that fits British band Fen like an old and comfortable glove.
Founded in 2006, Fen set out to submerge the listener in a windy and desolate landscape devoid of all hope. The band members all grew up in the Fens, a region bursting with mysterious plains dotted with swamps and wetlands. Song titles as ‘Ancient Sorrow’, ‘Towards the Shores of the End’, ‘Winter’, ‘The Dead Light’ and the recently released ‘Monuments to Absence’ make it abundantly clear this is not party music. Instead expect an intense, harrowing, atmospheric show that gets its hooks into you and doesn’t let go until the final note has died down.
