My Sleeping Karma
Alcatraz Line up: 2022
Hinduism and Buddhism on the one hand and psychedelic/stoner rock on the other are not the most obvious combination yet instrumental psych rock band My Sleeping Karma does just that. They even dedicated a page on their official site to the concept of karma and all the songs on their third album are named after Hindu gods. Based out of the German city of Aschaffenburg, they formed in 2005 and released their self-titled maiden album one year later, followed by a string of club shows and festival appearances. The album was well received and over the next few years they released a further two albums (‘Satya’ and ‘Tri’) and toured extensively, breaking new ground with gigs in such countries as Belgium, Greece, Chile, Austria and the UK. While 2015’s Mokscha doesn’t abandon their standard formula, it also introduces several new instruments to the mix to bring added variation. Their signature interludes are also present, ensuring smooth transitions from quieter moments to massive riffs. It’s been a long wait but meanwhile the band has completed the recording cycle for their sixth - currently still untitled - studio album. Fans of Monkey3, Electric Octopus and Samsara Blues Experiment know where to go.
