Alcatraz Line up: 2009, 2018

Back in the day Ronnie James Dio introduced guitarist ‘Ross the Boss’ Friedman to Joey DeMaio, a meeting that would lead to the birth of the mighty Manowar. Talk about history being written! Ross the Boss is the legendary guitarist who was in Manowar from 1980-1989, featuring on their first six records - still their best, in our humble opinion. That’s why it gives us great pleasure to welcome this iconic guitarist to Alcatraz. Following his departure from Manowar he was involved in numerous other projects including The Dictators and The Brain Surgeons. In 2008, nearly two decades after retiring from Manowar, the boss decided it was time to teach the fake metal gods another lesson with ‘New Metal Leader’, an album recorded in true Manowar style. Sounding as vital as ever, Ross the Boss released a second album two years later with ‘Hailstorm’. The line-up has been reshuffled since then: in addition to the man himself, there’s bassist Mike LePond (Symphony X), drummer Kenny ‘Rhino’ Earl (also ex-Manowar) and lead singer Marc Lopes.
