In 2025 it’ll be 30 years since American black/thrash peddlers Absu made a statement with ‘The Sun of Tiphareth’, which was more than enough reason to invite figurehead Proscriptor McGovern to Kortrijk.
Mythological and occult are two words that fit Absu like a glove. In fact, three decades ago they coined the term ‘Mesopotamian metal’ or ‘mythological occult metal’, due to the integration of ingenious oriental rhythms in their black hymns. Lyrically, ancient Babylon and the Necronomicon are as much of an inspiration as Absu’s Celtic roots. Their second album made a huge impact: 'The Sun of Tiphareth' is an album that represents the metaphysical association between phenomenon and noumenon – in plain English: illusion versus the tangible. Over the years Absu have disbanded and reformed several times but at Alcatraz 2025, Proscriptor and bandmates are coming to celebrate this landmark album with the support of Greek veterans Zemial.
