Saying that Kerry King’s show here will be one of the most anticipated performances of Alcatraz 2025 is stating the obvious.
When Slayer folded back in 2018, Kerry made it very clear he was far from done. He wrote a number of tracks that he considers “a crapshoot of everything that’s influenced him in his career” and went on to assemble an all-star team to keep doing what he had been doing for forty years. The Covid epidemic temporarily thwarted the touring plans of the fledgling band but with guitarist Phil Demmel, bassist Kyle Sanders, skinsman Paul Bostaph and Death Angel throat Mark Osegueda in his corner, the future was looking bright again. It must be said, Kerry’s first solo album certainly didn’t disappoint. On the one hand there are several tracks that could easily have been included on a Slayer album and on the other, King’s love of punk shines through in tracks like ‘Everything I Hate About You’ and ‘Two Fists’. The chemistry between the four band members is obvious and with the band members’ pedigree it’s no surprise they mesh so well on stage. This is a no-brainer for any thrash fan and a perfect opportunity to catch Kerry King outside the Slayer mould.
