Year of No Light are a French metal band that craft immersive, cinematic soundscapes blending post-metal, doom, sludge and shoegaze.
Since their formation in 2001, they’ve mastered the art of heavy, instrumental storytelling, using layers of crushing riffs, an ethereal atmosphere and brooding intensity to create music that feels like a quest through darkness and light. Their compositions, often sprawling and evocative, explore themes of decay, transcendence and the vastness of the unknown. In 2008 they replaced their vocalist with a third guitarist and a second drummer, effectively transforming the band into an instrumental six-piece. Since then Year of No Light also incorporate influences from black and drone metal, dark ambient and psychedelic doom into their music. Their live performances are a mesmerizing, almost hypnotic experience: waves of distortion and haunting melodies wash over the audience. Fans of bands like Cult of Luna, Russian Circles or Isis can’t go wrong with Year of No Light.
