Abbath Doom Occulta, or Abbath for short, is the former frontman of Norwegian black metal legends Immortal. In 2015 he formed Abbath and by the time their self-titled debut hit the shelves, the line-up consisted of Abbath, bassist King ov Hell and drummer Creature. As was the case on Immortal’s later albums, the thrash influences were apparent here as well. On the heels of a successful tour in support of their debut, work started on their sophomore effort. ‘Outstrider’ epitomises the very nature of the man who after more than three decades still explores a black metal universe of his own making where the man himself reigns supreme. Like his Motörhead cover band, ‘Outstrider’ (2019) is an album that reminds us all that Abbath is a rocker at heart. His most recent slab ‘Dread Reaver’ (2022) is a raw, grandiose and desolate universe unto itself, consisting of a captivating blend of black metal, hard rock, heavy metal and thrash.
