Columbarium
Alcatraz Line up: 2024
The band consists of seasoned musicians who paid their dues on the doom scene throughout the previous decade and since their 2021 reboot they have forged a serious reputation as a live act. The inclusion of an additional guitarist/keyboardist subsequently led to the emergence of a new signature sound that served them well on their 2023 full-length debut ‘The Morbidious One’: a super heavy, brutal doom record extracted straight from the clay soil of West Flanders and expertly tweaked by producers Lander Cluyse and Brad Boatright. The overall pitch black vibe is mitigated by a fair amount of experimentation: psychedelic elements and stoner grooves add a lighter note while the doom meter oscillates between old school and extreme. The clean guest vocals contributed by Of Blood & Mercury’s Michelle Nocon are a nice touch as well. Fans of Tiamat, Paradise Lost, Autopsy and Anathema will want to check this out!
