With a heavily distorted and down-tuned sound, the Brits in Conan are the odd one out in the doom metal universe. A new term has even been coined to describe their music: caveman battle doom.
Conan came into being in 2006 as a guitar/drums duo. They only added a bass guitarist after extensive experimentation. A good decision though, because from then they were on the right track. ‘Blood Eagle’ (2014) and ‘Revengeance’ (2016) in particular helped them carve out an excellent reputation. These were followed by three more long players, the most recent of which is ‘Evidence of Immortality’ (2022). ‘Live at Freak Valley’ (2021) is the perfect way to get acquainted with the undisputed masters of fantastical, otherworldly, sludgy doom.
