Swedish hard rockers Europe had their international breakthrough in the 80s with their third album ‘The Final Countdown’ and the title track that topped charts worldwide.
The band was established in 1979 as Force but changed their name to Europe in 1982. Initially their success was limited to Scandinavia until the mid-80s when ‘The Final Countdown’ (with hit singles ‘Rock the Night’ and ‘Carrie’ the title track) and successor ‘Out of This World’ propelled the band’s popularity to new heights. In 1992 they went on an indefinite hiatus but in 2002 Europe was officially revived. Since then they’ve put out six more albums and regularly play the European festival circuit. In 2023 their ‘The Time Capsule 40th Anniversary Tour’ sold out venues and arenas, proving they are still relevant after four decades in the music business.
