Extreme metal and skipping along with a happy grin pasted on yer mug, is that even possible? Don’t shake your head yet because for over a quarter century the Finnish party ensemble Finntroll has been proving it can be done.
Since their early beginnings they’ve combined up-tempo black metal with folk tunes from the Swedish-speaking part of Finland that are often referred to as ‘Humppa’. Their dark, anti-Christian but tongue-in-cheek lyrics are all about trolls and goblins in their struggle to rid the dark forests of the North of all human presence. So far no other band has been able to emulate their grim but playful style. Hide your daughters, your kegs of rum and your men of God because the trolls of the North have arrived!
