Time seems to have stood still for Kreator. Founded in 1982 in Germany’s Ruhr region, they are commonly credited as one of the pioneers of the European thrash movement.
Gary Holt himself routinely states that Kreator should be considered part of the Big Six of thrash. More than forty years on, Kreator still have a huge fanbase in the international metal community. Their second long player ‘Pleasure to Kill’ (1986) is widely regarded as one of the most influential thrash releases and subsequent albums confirmed their status as one of Europe’s leading thrash acts. In the nineties their popularity waned due to experiments with industrial influences but the early noughties brought a resurgence as they returned to their sound of old. As an emerging new generation of thrash warriors discovered Kreator over the last decade, their popularity surged once again, helped in no small measure by the excellent albums such as ‘Phantom Antichrist’ (2012) and ‘Gods of Violence’ (2017); the sublime ‘Hate Über Alles’ (2022) even hit the charts. The Kreator has returned!
