Formed in 2007, extreme metallers Alkerdeel initially churned out black/doom/sludge with larger-than-life production, grinding guitars, distorted drums and supremely sick vocals to create an ultra-heavy, doomy, raw black and even psychedelic whole.
In their own words, they are “an extreme metal band with influences ranging from Darkthrone to Burning Witch and everything in between, be it black, doom, punk, crust, death, kraut, noise… whatever. And as we’re from Belgium, there’s a huge amount of surrealism and stench involved as well.” Alkerdeel exploded onto the scene with their EP ‘The Bollaf’ (2008) before Blesken - of Sylvester Anfang fame - captured the energy of the erupting volcano that is Alkerdeel live on tape, resulting in their first full-length album ‘De Speenzalvinge’ in 2010. Two years later, ‘Morinde’ showcased an evolving band: kraut-like psychedelics came to the fore, eliminating almost all sludge and old-school influences. In 2021 during the turbulent Covid pandemic, their fourth album ‘Slonk’ hit the shelves, much to the delight of Archgoat, Ildjarn and Mizmot fans. At Alcatraz 2023 they filled in for Gaahls Wyrd at the eleventh hour and made a lasting impression. This time you’ve been warned!
