Texas sons Fit for a King formed in 2007 and released two EPs and their 2011 debut ‘Descendants’ under their own steam before being snapped up by Solid State Records.
The Christian metalcore band delivers a riveting mix of punishing breakdowns, melodic hooks and lyrics that explore the sombre depths of the human condition. Following their breakthrough with ‘Creation/Destruction’ they continued in the same vein. For many bands the third album is a breaking point but for Fit for a King this is when things really started to take off with the consecutive releases ‘Slave to Nothing’ (2014), ‘Deathgrip’ (2016) and ‘Dark Skies’ (2018); 2020’s ‘The Path’ made it into the top 10 of the Billboard Top Album Charts. Shortly before the pandemic, frontman Ryan Kirby and his wife adopted her niece and nephew. Shortly after she suffered a stroke, fundamentally changing Kirby’s life. This personal drama was one of the inspirations behind their most recent work ‘The Hell We Create’ (2022), an excellent album that made a lasting impression.
