Caliban refuse to be pigeonholed. Over the years their music has frequently been labelled as metalcore but in reality the German brand draws inspiration from a variety of genres.
With albums such as ‘Vent’ (2001), ‘Shadow Hearts’ (2003) and ‘The Opposite Within’ (2004), the German band carved out a niche for itself on the European modern metal scene. While maintaining their crushing, breakdown-fuelled approach in the following years, other influences started creeping in. ‘I Am Nemesis’ (2012), for instance, incorporated more keyboards and technical guitar work. Meanwhile they’ve also recruited Iain Duncan as their bassist/clean vocalist, adding yet another dimension to their individual brand of metalcore.
