Three studio albums, two live records and several split albums are all Earthless needed to make a generous impact on the psychedelic rock scene.
Although guitarist Isaiah Mitchell occasionally sings, this San Diego-based outfit is a mostly instrumental trio whose live performances are best compared to a spellbinding seance. Formed by three like-minded musicians in 2001, the original line-up is still intact. They are known for their extremely long instrumental songs: the first two albums ‘Sonic Prayer’ (2005) and ‘Rhythms from a Cosmic Sky’ (2007) consist of two tracks. If you want to know what to expect from an Earthless show just listen to a few of their live albums, such as ‘Live at Roadburn’ (2008) and ‘Live in the Mojave Desert: Volume 1’ (2021). Expect protracted, at times semi-improvised tracks with a foundation of classic rock, psychedelic metal, blues, jazz and even the occasional pinch of krautrock.
